TOUR DESCRIPTION:
Galway Bay, immortalised in song, its beauty unchanging. Galway City has been a popular holiday destination for many years. Travel just a few miles north to discover the mountain ranges, lakes and forests of the Connemara National Park. It's nearly 3000 hectares contain rare orchids and carnivorous plants, red deer, pine martins and mink. Across the calm waters of Galway Bay, stand the three mystical Aran Islands - Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer. The largest is Inishmore, reached comfortably by ferry from the mainland. Within the ancient setting are the ruins of Dun Aengus, an iron Age Fort, set high on a cliff edge. Internationally famed for the Aran sweater, a less likely hero of these islands is Father Ted. In celebration of this popular TV series many hundreds of worshippers now descend there each February for the annual 'Tedfest'. We have included a visit to Inishmore, where we will be met by local mini buses for a guided tour of the island and including admission to Dun Aengus.
