Portsmouth is fast becoming Britain's favourite waterfront destination, with more and more to offer every year. Portsmouth’s
waterfront extends for miles through Old Portsmouth and along Southsea’s Victorian seafront with stunning views across the
Solent. Enjoy Portsmouth's irresistible mix of history and heritage, specialist shopping, lively arts, great restaurants and bars
and a programme of year round events. Take a walk around the city and you'll notice a striking contrast of old and new.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard stands close to Portsmouth's newest landmark, the Spinnaker Tower. Portsmouth is home to
a host of fascinating museums covering all aspects of Portsmouth's past as well as the award-winning Gunwharf Quays - with
over 20 cosmopolitan bars, designer outlet shopping, nightclubs, a multiplex cinema and bowling. Portsmouth is the perfect
location to visit Isle of Wight for the day, where we will have plenty of time to have an island tour and we will spend time in
the most popular resort of Shanklin. With its beautiful beach and gardens, its history and tradition, Shanklin is a charming
seaside town. Start with a cliff-top walk for spectacular views over Sandown Bay. Then relax in one of Shanklin's beautiful parks
or the peaceful Rylstone Gardens. Lose yourself in the historic Old Village with its thatched cottages and tearooms, or visit
the famous Shanklin Chine - a gorge with rare plants and a delightful waterfall.
Another day we will visit the beautiful City of Chichester, an original Roman city surrounded by its city walls. Compact and
intimate, Chichester is made for exploring. There’s history on every corner from the Tudor Market Cross to the dominant
Norman Cathedral. But Chichester does modern too with Pallant House Art Galleryand its new high-tech, high spec
exhibition halls. There’s plenty of shopping, with designer label boutiques, stylish restaurants, organic cafés and gastro pubs –
a haven for any ‘professional shopper’. No visit to this area would be complete without a visit to the famous Longleat Safari
Park & House made famous by the BBC ‘Animal Park’ which first hit our screens in 2000 and has been attracting millions of
viewers ever since.
Presented by Kate Humble and Ben Fogle, the series goes behind the scenes to investigate the daily goings on and dramas of
this world famous safari park and stately home. We are staying at the Royal Beach Hotel, having stayed here for an overnight
heading into Europe, and we decided that it would be nice to stay here for a full holiday. The Best Western Royal Beach Hotel
is on Southsea's promenade overlooking the Solent and offers home from home friendly customer care. Reception is open
24 hours, with a lift to all floors. The bedrooms are modern yet comfortable with complimentary tea/coffee facilities, satellite
tv, direct dial telephone and internet connection. The restaurant serves excellent full English Breakfast and table d'hote menu
with a fine selection of wines. They have 2 bars and a residents lounge available. Altogether we think this will be a wonderful
tour. On the outward and return journey we will overnight in the Birmingham Area
